BURNT TERRACOTTA PETIT VASE

The Burnt Terracotta Petit Vase is handmade in Bagru, India using traditional pottery wheels and wood fired kilns. Their characteristic hazy matte-black hue is created by double firing the terracotta. In the second firing, the primitive fire kiln is covered with sand, causing smoke to transform classic orange terracotta to coveted moody black. Small in scale with a curvaceous tulip silhouette, natural texture and monochromatic tone they are a simplistic yet eye catching addition. Each piece will have subtle differences in finish and these variations are part of the handmade appeal. Unglazed terracotta is porous and should not be used to hold water.
